Southern Nuclear, a subsidiary of Southern Company, manages and operates six nuclear power electric generating plants that provide approximately 20 percent of the electricity used in Alabama and Georgia. FleetTurbine – Project Manager


The Fleet Turbine Project Manager is the technical member of the fleet turbine-generator outage planning team. This individual manages the turbine parts inventory and materials associated with turbine maintenance, assists with contract negotiation and administration of turbine contracts, and procedure development for maintenance of Southern Nuclear turbine-generators. Implements best practices and innovation Fleetwide in order to achieve efficient outages with high quality and equipment reliability.


Educational Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent with additionaltechnical mechanical or electrical training

  • Technical BS Degree (preferred)

Background/Experience Requirements

  • Thorough understanding oflarge rotating equipment used in power plants

  • Large rotating equipmentoutage or project implementation experience

  • Intradepartmentalcommunication skills (verbal and written)

  • Must have 6-8 years powerplant experience with at least 3 years cumulative industry experience inproject management, operations, maintenance, project controls orengineering.

  • Critical Path schedulingMethod knowledge

  • Experience working withmultiple departments required

  • Ability to communicateeffectively with all functional areas in the Fleet

  • Experience in vendorrelations and contractual processes

  • Thorough understanding of Turbine/Generatorknowledge (preferred)

  • Knowledge of mainframe and PCbased scheduling tools (preferred)

  • 3 to 6 years Nuclear PlantExperience (preferred)

  • Experience with ESOMs &Maximo (preferred)


  • Providing technical input to thefleet Turbine/Generator planningefforts

  • Managing Turbine/Generator parts inventory and materials associated witheach site’s Turbine/Generator maintenance

  • Assist with contract negotiation andcontract administration for all outage Turbine/Generatorcontracts

  • Develop and maintain procedures andoutage templates for implementing the SNC Turbine/Generator maintenance strategy for each SNC site

  • Optimize activities associated with Turbine/Generator


  • Provide clear and conciseinstructions for Turbine/Generator maintenance

  • Incorporate lessons-learned andbest-practices fleetwide into SNC Turbine/Generatormaintenance procedures

  • Participate in periodic alignmentand challenge meetings throughout the Fleet

  • Works in a collaborative environmentwith the Turbine/Generator team in corporate and site to obtain highreliability and low cost for the Turbine/Generator

  • Assist the Fleet Turbine ServicesManager in challenging and adjusting project budgets

  • Serve as a back-up to the siteTurbine supervisors for outage execution
