Position Title: Education Associate, Data Warehouse Administrator/Developer

Reports To: Director, Technology Operations

Description of Position:
Under the direction of the director and team lead of the Data Administration team, this position shares responsibility with the lead warehouse developer for the development and maintenance of the Education Insight Data Warehouse, the Department’s Enterprise-wide data warehouse implementation. Coordinating with peers on the Data Administration Team and across the department is essential for the effective success of this position. The position combines demonstrated technical expertise with data and business analysis expertise in order to establish and document data and business requirements for the Data Warehouse. The position is responsible for documentation of requirements; data governance; development and implementation of extract, transformation, and load (ETL) processes; maintenance and optimization of the nightly data warehouse refresh process; maintenance of the Insight Warehouse Data Dictionary; and for assistance of users of the Insight Data Warehouse.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Analysis, design, development, testing, and maintenance of the Education Insight Data Warehouse via Microsoft SQL Server and Business Intelligence tools like SSIS, SSRS and SSAS.
  • Work closely with education experts in the department to support the existing data warehouse domains and gather and document new data requirements as per departmental needs.
  • Develop and maintain ETL (Extract Transform and Load) processes consistent with current Insight Warehouse standards.
  • Interface with users, and internal staff to ensure that implemented solutions satisfy business requirements and are delivered in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as required by the Director and Team Lead, Data Administration Team.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in management information systems, computer science, business administration or related field.
  • Master’s preferred in a relevant field from an accredited educational institution.

  • Experience with dimensional data warehouse implementations or large relational database
  • Advanced experience in the following areas:
    • Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services
    • Proficiency in T-SQL programming
    • Visual Studio and SQL Server Data Tools
  • Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services and SQL Server Analytical Services a plus.
  • Experience in the development and maintenance of complex ETL processes using MSSQL.
  • Experience with maintenance, development, and optimization of SQL Agent jobs.
  • Demonstrated competency in managing multiple projects and deliverables with firm deadlines.
  • Experience providing business analysis to interpret business requirements into technical documents, as well as documentation, testing, implementation of technical requirements.

  • Skills:
    Superior SQL programming ability and business analysis skills and ability to translate business requirements into functional requirements and functional code
    Superior time management skills and ability to deliver within tight deadlines in high-pressure, results-oriented, and rapidly changing environments.
    Demonstrated ability to drive issues to closure and work well within a deadline-driven environment.
    Excellent organizational and communication skills (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills.

    Salary will be computed in accordance with the education, experience, and training of the individual selected and in accordance with salary schedules for employees of the Department of Education. Direct deposit of payroll checks is a condition of state employment, and employees are paid on a lag pay schedule with the first payment made after approximately one month of employment.
