Orthopedic Specialist of SW Florida

Job Description:

Job Summary: Oversee all patient demographic, insurance verifications, collection of all account balances and procedure visits, as well as patient benefit plan information. Project the professional caring image of Orthopedic Specialists of SW Florida while expediently checking in/checking our patients. This position will have unrestricted access to protected health information (PHI) pertaining to their patients.

Essential Functions:

  • Greet patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner
  • Oversee waiting area, coordinate patient flow and report problems
  • Verify demographic and insurance information and update as necessary
  • Verify patient paperwork for completion and scan documents, insurance card(s) and photo identification into computer
  • Schedule follow-up appointments upon check out
  • Calculate correct patient responsibility and collect current as well as prior balance from patients
  • Prepare and verify daily deposit
  • Verify current information for upcoming appointments
  • Confirm patient appointments

  • Responsible for promoting the Standards of Excellence for Orthopedic Specialists while demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior toward patients, visitors, volunteers, peers and physicians
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work environment, demonstrates the ability to organize and prioritize work during heavy workload situations to expedite patient care
  • Maintain strictest confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA compliance
  • Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision
  • Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments
  • Work independently while understanding the need to communicate and coordinate work efforts with other employees and organizations

Minimum Requirements (education, experience, special skills and

licenses or certifications required):
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 1 year medical front office and receptionist experience
  • Ability to perform essential duties
  • Computer Literate – Windows environment
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong customer relations/interpersonal skills

Minimum Requirements (education, experience, special skills and licenses or certifications required) continued:

  • Ability to clearly communicate written and verbal instructions
  • Knowledge of billing and insurance
  • Ability to perform basic mathematics
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure
  • Ability to manage stress appropriately

  • Ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks and prioritize
  • Ability to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned
  • Ability to demonstrate proper telephone etiquette and computer skills

Essential Physical Function:

  • Work demands prolonged periods of sitting, walking, standing, bending, occasional walking up and down stairs, carrying cumbersome items such as: records, supplies (less than 15 pounds) working the equipment, and physical stress. (Work is 90-100% sitting and walking)

  • Computer, scanner, printer, calculator, photocopier, facsimile, telephones, credit card machine
