Technical Trainer, Optical Fabrication

A key focus area will be working with Manufacturing Skills/Environmental Safety and Health (ESH) to support technical training for Manufacturing. This will require providing both technical knowledge and performance-based skills in Optical Fabrication, Precision Measurement Tools, and other related courses as required to meet functional/program training certification needs. This will also require working with customers to identify training development needs and resources to support those needs. This position has daily interface with employees, co-workers, managers, and Sr. Leadership customers as needed and will require strong problem solving and communication skills. This is a team environment with both local and virtual teaming responsibilities.
Experience with Optical Fabrication Processes to include various types of Metrology, Operating Automated CNC Machines relevant to Optical Generating, Polishing, or Shaping.
Experience with spherical optical elements and mirrors
Experience working as an optician with CNC machines
Experience using hand tools, diamond tools or precision machining tools
Experience with the selection and use of tooling to obtain specified surface finish and contours
Experience with testing parts to ensure they meet finished specifications requirements
Experience with collecting measurements and making process adjustments to obtain precise contours on optical elements
Experience with polishing various optical materials and geometries to specified optical dimensions
Experience with optical alignment, interferometers and optical metrology
Experience with controlling contours, thickness wedge and surface quality
Experience reading and following written instructions, schematics and engineering drawings and work effectively in a team environment
Experience troubleshooting radius, irregularity and surface requirements
Effective interpersonal skills, including team building and collaboration with other functions engineers, supervisors and managers
Must have the ability to obtain a Secret security clearance
Familiarity with the following items is desired: aspheric lenses, rough and finish grind flats, shop aids, test plates, special shaped elements and thin film/deposition coating
Experience with MIL-PRF-13830B and other related Optical MIL specifications
Familiarity with skills-based training processes
Ability to analyze and resolve process issues varying from basic to very complex
Demonstrate problem solving skills, including root cause analysis
Effective written, verbal, listening skills
Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Prior experience working with and training union represented employees
Utilizes lesson plans and training materials
Ability to evaluate effectiveness of training activities
Ability to revise lesson plans to ensure course material reflect product features, meet new training requirements and to keep technical information up to date
