Job Description:
The Kauai Humane Society seeks a Marketing and Communications Specialist to execute the organization's marketing and communications strategy, with a heavy emphasis on social media. KHS’s Marketing and Communications Specialist is highly competent in creating content, using editing programs like Adobe Suite, including Lightroom, Photoshop, and Premier, and using WordPress to keep the KHS website up to date. Handling dogs and cats of all sizes, temperaments, and health conditions is required for this position.

Marketing and Communications Specialist Qualifications
- High school graduate or GED equivalent required
- Post secondary education focused in marketing and/or communications strongly preferred
- Working smartphone with access to social media apps such as Instagram
- Knowledge of Adobe programs required! (Photoshop & Premiere)
- Strong computer/technology skills
- Strong writing skills
- Valid Hawaii Driver’s license, or valid out-of-state license, with a clear driving record for at least one year prior to application
Marketing and Communications Specialist Responsibilities
- Oversees all social media accounts: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
- Manages, updates, and responds to KHS reviews and feedback on Facebook and Google Plus
- Increases KHS’s social media presence and engagement of followers
- Creates a method for tracking social media growth and successes
- Recruits volunteers to help with social media
- Attends events (adoption events, volunteer events, development events)
- During events will be responsible for:
- Completing a Facebook Live
- Creating a Instagram Story
- Taking pictures for social media and event purposes
- Writes Press Releases and distributes to all media sources
- Creates and maintains media distribution lists
- Coordinates with news media outlets around any special events or promotions
- Develops relationships with media & community outlets such as:
- Ho’ike community news channel
- Newspapers and TV stations
- Kauai Community College photo and video departments
- KHS
- KONG radio
- Oversees Website Revision
- Maintains and improves content of website, including:
- Events and Announcements
- Creative design of banners and graphics
- Leads content development for breaking news, community animal issues, and trending topics for KHS
- Creates content and manages updates of infographics and brochures/handouts for community animal welfare education and shelter services
- Writes monthly newsletters
- Creates graphics and content for online fundraising events promoted on the KHS website, social media channels, and email platform
- Utilizes Salsa Engage, a donor management and non profit marketing tool for online fundraising and development
- Actively educates self on the latest trends in online marketing, paid advertising and nonprofit technology
- Utilizes Search Engine Optimization knowledge to ensure KHS is a top result in online searches
- Completes other duties as assigned
