JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Learning, the Education and Training Specialist is responsible to coordinate, supervise, implement and maintain reporting for community sexuality and health education program for youth, parents, professionals and other adults in the community or designated geographic area. The Education and Training Specialist will focus on presenting and supervising volunteers who present educational programs for teens and young adults, particularly those at higher risk, and for parents and professionals; advocate and serve as liaison with schools and other human service agencies for sexuality and health education programs; develop new community contacts and maintain existing programs, including our volunteers; expand community educational offerings by developing new programs under the direction of the Director of Learning; and perform other related duties to support affiliate operations. Education and Training Specialists are advocates to “empower all people to make private reproductive health care decisions by providing quality health care, medically accurate education and advocacy for individual rights.”

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Administrative
  • Develop and maintain monthly reports including education, time studies and timely submission of expense reimbursements.
  • Maintain required contact and evaluation records and files of community education services provided, and prepare progress reports.
  • Participate in ongoing feedback with colleagues, customers, and systems; be willing to adopt the use of feedback as a tool for decision making and performance evaluation.
Education and Outreach
  • Serves as an instructor in delivering professional training programs;
  • Conduct classroom or small group health and sexuality educational sessions in accordance with Planned Parenthood of Montana (PPMT) or other approved curricula or formats; prepare educational and informational materials, exercises and activities that are age and culturally appropriate to the target population;
  • Plan and implement targeted community outreach, education, youth development and peer education programs in accordance with PPMT contractual guidelines.
  • Identify and participate in community coalitions, as assigned.
  • Provide educational/in-service training support to other PPMT departments.
  • Establish and enhance relationships in the community and within school systems which facilitate access and referrals to Planned Parenthood programs and services; promotes, and responds to requests for sexuality educational programs in schools, agencies and other community organizations;
Educational Program Management
  • Market, deliver and evaluate core professional training programs for professionals in schools and other organizations according to goals and objectives of PPMT’s Education Plan.
  • Market, deliver and evaluate educational programs for parents and/or students according to goals and objectives of PPMT’s Education Plan.
  • Replicate and implement best practice programs ensuring that program requirements and guidelines are met and with fidelity as required.
  • Provide input to, implement and assist with evaluation of annual plan for sexuality education programs.
Knowledge Management and Curriculum Design
  • Assist in development and expansion of specific education programs and volunteer projects.
  • Assist in conceptualization, field testing and writing of original education materials, including comprehensive sex ed curricula.
  • Provide cultural competency training to PPMT staff, board and volunteers.
  • Serve as a resource/consultant/advocate for sexuality education issues with the affiliate and the Native American community.
  • Keep abreast of advances in family planning and sexuality education.
  • Attend appropriate conferences and training sessions.
Program Administration
  • Assist the Director of Learning in evaluating and maintaining educational materials such as journals, books, videos, and pamphlets.
  • Maintain required contact and evaluation records and files of community education services provided, and prepare progress reports.
  • Participate in ongoing feedback with colleagues, customers, and systems; be willing to adopt the use of feedback as a tool for decision making and performance evaluation.
  • Manage
local components of education grants, including completing required reports in a timely manner, attending grant meetings, assisting with proposal writing, and financial reporting
Relationship Management
  • Develop and maintain liaison relationships with colleagues in statewide organizations (including Department of Public Health and Human Services Department (DPHHS), as well as with other community leaders.
  • Build and maintain local education contacts and contracts.
  • Serve as a resource/consultant/advocate for sexuality education issues with the affiliate and the community.
  • Work in collaboration with the VP of External Affairs to ensure visibility of our Education Department resources and services.

Education and/or Experience

  • B.S. /B.A. in Education, Social Work, Health, Communications, or a related field preferred. Qualified candidates must have at least two years experience. A combination of experience and education will be considered in lieu of Bachelor’s degree

Additional Requirements

  • Knowledge of reproductive health and sexuality
  • Willingness to work evening and weekend hours.
  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to understand and relate to people of all ages and socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Valid Montana driver’s license, access to personal transportation and proof of automotive insurance.
