Purpose of Position
Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.
Why does the job exist?
This position supervises four or more subordinates on a maintenance patrol with a designated area involving in a variety of highway maintenance activities. Position will perform operation of medium to heavy-duty motorized equipment and powered stationary equipment in construction and maintenance of roads and highways in a safe and efficient manner to maintain interstates, roads, roadways and highways for the safety of the traveling public.
How does it get done?
By supervising a crew of four or more subordinates. Assigning employees to perform maintenance actives on a daily basis and ensuring their work is complete. Entering Daily Maintenance Activities into the Maintenance Management System. Approving payroll for employees on a weekly basis. Providing Customer Service to the Traveling Public.

The Traveling Public.
- Using the Maintenance Management System
- SHARE to approve time and also to report time
- Managing a field supplies budget
- Assisting in emergency response situations related to highway operations
- Dealing with irate customers
- Responding to the public, management, and other entities
High School Diploma or Equivalent and one (1) year of experience maintaining roads and operating medium to heavy-duty equipment to include loader, blade, five and ten yard dump truck, self -propelled broom, roller, and/or mower. This position may require Herbicide, Tanker and/or Hazmat endorsement. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.
Must possess a New Mexico Drivers License and a New Mexico Class A CDL at time of hire. Post-offer Physical and Pre-Employment Drug Test are required for safety sensitive classifications.

- Education and years of experience must be related to the purpose of the position.
- If Minimum Qualification requires a specific number of "semester hours" in a field (e.g. 6 semester hours in Accounting), applicants MUST have those semester hours in order to meet the minimum qualifications. No substitutions apply for semester hours.
This position is designated a safety sensitive position within the meaning of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991 and must abide by all provisions of the Federal Omnibus Transportation Testing Act. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Employment requires successful completion of a post-offer physical and pre-employment drug test; employment is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License and a New Mexico Class A Commercial Driver's License at the time of hire. Tanker and Hazmat Endorsement may be required. Business reference check and Driver's License verification are also required and employment is conditional pending results.
Work is performed outside in varying weather conditions - hot or cold, wind, rain and snow, dust, pollen, chemicals, rough/rugged terrain, noxious plants and infected trash; subject to falls and bruises, considerable physical expenditure; irregular hours day or night; to include but not limited to standing for extended time doing traffic control or walking long distances for litter control; subject to call out for weather or accidents and/or emergencies on short notice; work may also be performed in an office setting to include working with computers, faxes, copiers and printers; use of hands to finger, handle or feel while performing various assigned maintenance duties; numerous specific vision abilities to include: close, distance, color, and peripheral vision; depth perception, and ability to adjust focus; ability to lift up to 50 lbs; climbing, reaching, kneeling, crawling to perform equipment maintenance. Exposure to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals, airborne particles and/or asphalt and petroleum products; exposure to temperatures up to 150 degrees around oil distributor operations; high speed/high volume traffic; load noises.
