Department Description

The Thurston Arthritis Research Center (TARC) investigates the causes, consequences and treatments of arthritis and autoimmune diseases, the objective to reduce their impact on patients, their families and society. TARC is associated with the Division of Rheumatology, Allergy, and Immunology in the Department of Medicine. Dr. Beth Jonas, MD is the Interim Division Chief, and Dr. Richard Loeser, MD is the Director of TARC.

Position Description

The primary purpose of this position is data collection and phlebotomy for the long-standing UNC Johnston County Osteoarthritis Project and Johnston County Health Study located in Smithfield, NC. Data collection includes, but is not limited to, telephone and in-person interviews, collection of clinical data in research clinic visits.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Ability to interact competently and professionally with study participants and larger study team. Ability to work independently with some self-direction but also to function as part of a research team. Accuracy in data collection, knowledge of and adherence to study protocols and compliance with confidentiality/security standards are essential. Position requires successful completion of research phlebotomy training and computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred experience includes previous or current work in human subjects research and phlebotomy.
